SR286 Passive Treatment System

The SR286 Passive Treatment System was the first construction project of AWARE in 2003.  The system consists of a 1/2 acre aerobic wetland.  No major maintenance has occurred at this site.  Water quality from the first few samples and observation of unused portions of the wetland indicated that the mine discharge was short circuiting the treatment system.  AWARE contacted SRI through their O&M Technical Assistance Program to evaluate the issue.  Two directional floating baffle curtains were installed in January of 2020 to break up the channelized flow.
