AWARE OPEN HOUSE & 25TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION – OCTOBER 18, 2025

Come join us for the AWARE Open House and 25th Anniversary Celebration! AWARE was formed in 2000 of a group of concerned citizens from the area to address the problem of abandoned mine discharges into our waterways. Come learn about what AWARE has been doing for the past 25 years! The Open House is scheduled for October 18th from 2 to 5PM at the Coal Run-McIntyre Volunteer Fire Department. The address of the VFD is 2049 Coal Run Road, Clune, PA 15727.

The festivities at the AWARE Open House will include:
• Inspiring speakers and watershed success stories
• Snacks and refreshments
• Giveaways
• A guided tour of our Neal Run Passive Treatment System
• Information on free landowner reforestation programs
• …and more!

This is a great opportunity to connect with fellow partners, celebrate our shared accomplishments, and look ahead to the future of our watershed.  Please spread the word—friends, families, and community members are all welcome!

The keynote speaker will be Eric Oliver, a Mined Land Reforestation Specialist for Green Forests Work. Eric’s work focuses on reforesting thousands of acres of forest in Pennsylvania lost to mining and restoring the temperate forest ecology to a native state that existed before mineral extraction using the Appalachian Regional Reforestation Initiative’s Forestry Reclamation Approach. Eric will discuss techniques of using the Forestry Reclamation Approach, including at a site within the Aultmans Run Watershed. Eric will also discuss the planting of hybrid American Chestnuts and red spruce as part of these reforestation efforts.
